More 'FAQ'
What are the requirements for the Advanced Lab course?
the Beginners Lab courses (AP1/2)
I have no matrikel number yet
Enroll with '0' and send number later by email
When can I begin the lab course?
Anytime during the term after completion of the Beginners Labs
(AP1+2) and
after assignment of a partner (out-of-term you can search a partner
via the 'Partner wanted ads'. You have to be inscribed and not on
leave. If you want to start right at the beginning of a term, enroll
no later than 3 weeks before the term.
Begin out-of-term: there are usually very few FP1 tasks offered out-of-term.
I don't know whom to take as partner. How do I get a partner?
If you did not name a desired partner, a partner will be assigned by the
FP supervisor. You will see the assignment and the partner email address
on your status page.
I want to interupt the Lab Course, for an exchange abroad, e.g.
No problem. Please notify the FP supervisor, disable scheduling on your
status page. In your own interest, see that your open tasks get completed.
What happens with my evaluations of the experiments and
tutors?
Every tutor can see his evaluations and profit from the feedback.
The FP supervisor can see all evaluations and take action in case of
experiments with problems and talk to the tutor(s).
What are 'special write-ups' all about?
You do them in FP1
or FP2, howver, FP2 experiments are rcommended. Experiments for
special write-ups are selected via te personal status webpage (there
is no automatic assignment).
You learn to present a 'scientific' result as in a publication,
with modern methods (text processing, digital graphics, tables
etc.). The 'special write-ups'
are done in addition to the regular evaluation and testat in
the logbook. For the long write-up, you might deliver evaluation and
write-up in one go, for the short one, there is normally not enough space for a
complete comprehensive presentation of data and evaluation such that the tutor
may not be able to judge it from the short write-up alone.
My task has already been 'testiert' by the tutor,
but I get overdue-notifications.
The tutor may have given Testat in the logbook, but he has forgotten to
enter it in the database. Remind him/her by email.
Your evaluation may have been accepted ('testiert'), but a 'special
write-up' is overdue or not accepted yet.
My task was canceled due to not meeting the deadline.
If the evaluation has already been seen by the tutor the
cancelation will be revoked (the overdue and cancelation notes go in
parallel to the tutor). If there was a cogent reason for the delay you
can send an email to the FP supervisor. This you should, however, normally do
before the deadline.
A free task in these scheduled weeks is due to cancelation or lack
of demand, i.e., you could, if it suits you, request it 'last minute'
by email to the FP supervisor (but not later than Thursday of the week before.
You have to prepare for it, don't you?)
I have conflicting dates for the lab course hours
You can contact the tutor and try to arrange different hours within
the task week. This is often possible, ususually not, however, for FP1
tasks since there several team are tutored in parallel.
How do I get a seminar date?
bookings can be made on the personal FP status page or, in special cases, via an email to the FP adminstration
What are the FP
seminar rules?
You have to perform and evaluate the associated experiment
beforehand. You have to discuss the organisation of the talk with a
tutor of the task (usually the one that tutored you) and do a
rehearsal. The subject should not occur more than once in my course.
More info see FP home page.
Am I allowed to give the talk on an experiment which I have selected for a special write-up?
Yes
I have all testate and done the seminar, but I don't get the email
notification that the certificate has been issued.
This may take a few days. Otherwise: has the seminar been
accepted. Are the task testate in the database, i.e. visible on your
status page? Are the special write-ups accepted? Has the applied for
acknowledgement been finally granted (see status page)?
What kind of projects / mini research can be credited towards the FP?
see
Acknowledgement guidelines
How can I book out-of-term experiments and what do I have to consider?
via the page
FP out-of-term. There you see the tasks offered and you can directly mail the tutors.
Respect the guidelines on this web page concerning the allowed task
combinations. You can prematurely book FP2 tasks after 2 FP1 tasks.
Do I have to contact the FP administration for the transmission
of the FP grade?
No! You will be notified by an email. In case you need a certificate in form of a paper you can pick it up at Mr. Welzbacher's office (INF 501).
